ALUMNI FAQ’s
Are there any plans to re-open the school?
There are currently no plans to re-open Daycroft as a “bricks and mortar” school. However, the Foundation continues to expand its online learning program, and a new school concept is emerging. When is the next reunion?
There were reunions in 1994, 2000 and 2007. The next one has not yet been scheduled, but is still several years away. Why did the school close?
The school was facing sharply declining enrollments and the substantial costs involved in maintaining its campus. The Trustees worked diligently to find a more efficient campus in New England to re-locate the school. Over thirty locations were investigated, but none proved to be the answer. What ever happened to the Daycroft campuses?
The Stamford campus was purchased by a manufacturing firm many years ago. Neither Hill House nor Adelaide Hall is still standing. Recently, the city of Stamford purchased a portion of the property to build a charter school.
The original Greenwich campus, the former Marjorie Merriweather Post estate, was purchased by Eagle Hill School. The school has added several buildings, but the new buildings blend in beautifully with the old, and the campus looks much the same.
The last Greenwich campus, formerly Rosemary Hall, was purchased in 1991 by the Japanese Educational Institute as a day school for the children of Japanese families working in the US. Recently, the campus was purchased by the Westchester-Fairfield Hebrew Academy, which occupies half of the campus. The other half is being leased to the Japanese school for a few more years. There have been extensive renovations to the campus, particularly to the interiors of the girls’ dorm, Founder’s Hall, and some classroom buildings. The Chapel is still there and occasionally used for weddings. If Daycroft is a foundation with assets, why do you ask for contributions?
While Daycroft is blessed with an endowment, it still is unable to respond positively to many worthy funding proposals. In addition, as Daycroft’s online learning program expands, the demands on its funds increase. Contributions allow the Foundation to reach out in vital, fresh ways. Will there ever be an online alumni directory?
Yes, there are future plans for a passworded Daycroft online alumni directory. What can alumni do to help the Foundation and maintain their connection with the school?
The Foundation welcomes alumni participation. Your ideas, comments, and suggestions for how Daycroft might serve the Christian Science community are valued. Please tell others about Daycroft’s programs, particularly the online curriculum and programs for educators. Daycroft needs your help keeping the alumni database current, in planning reunions, and in developing the “Daycroft heritage” project. Your financial support is very welcome, as are your recommendations for Trustee candidates.
