Homeschooling

The Daycroft Online Learning Community families have chosen to homeschool for a variety of reasons. The traditional school environment doesn’t work for every child. When a family understands and makes the commitment, homeschooling can be a blessing. However, homeschooling is not right for everyone.

Is Homeschooling Right for You?

Here are a few qualities that students and parents should demonstrate in order to have a successful homeschool experience.

Students should:

  • Be self-motivated.
  • Like to work independently.
  • Want to take responsibility for his or her education.
  • Accept the fact that s/he must make a daily decision to progress and meet goals.

Parent-teachers should:

  • Understand that they are responsible for providing an appropriate learning environment.
  • Set up and maintain a suitable daily study routine.
  • Be willing and available to work side-by-side with their student.
  • Communicate regularly with the education specialist.
  • Provide opportunities for socialization through music, art and dance classes, play dates, sports and community service.
  • Freely distribute hugs and high-fives!

It is the responsibility of each family to be thoroughly familiar with the laws regarding homeschooling in each state and to make sure that they are in compliance.

Gratitude from Parents

“Everyday I am more certain that home schooling is the right course for us. The public schools seem to have so many problems, I wouldn't even consider it, and this curriculum is so good, I don't see that she could get a better education, at least not around here!” —Parent
